Scott Davis is Executive Director of the Vanguard Community Development Corporation in Detroit. He has shown great leadership with the Vanguard Community Development Corporation and has taken the agency to new heights and organizational viability.

He has enormous vision – seen for example in the creation of a new business incubator for small businesses on East Grand Boulevard, the construction of a beautiful new senior living residence in the middle of what was formerly a series of blighted vacant lots, and the development of a basic needs pantry. Mr. Davis believes strongly in the value of collaboration. As the Executive Director of one of five lead agencies in the Central Woodward/North End Collaborative, he has been instrumental in collaborating around issues of consequence to the community. He constantly seeks for new ways to leverage resources and expand the impact of the positive change. Mr. Davis also brings amazing compassion to his work – using his own money to provide gift cards to needy community members so that they can get food when no grant or public funding is available.

He has continued the organization's legacy of housing development, but has expanded the organizations program offerings to meet the needs of the individuals and families who live in those homes - through educational, entrepreneurial, and basic needs programs. He is supporting the creation of new small businesses in the neighborhood, and fostering the entrepreneurial spirit of the area's young people. His programs have been recognized and supported by the Skillman Foundation, the Knight Foundation, the Kresge Foundation, United Way and Detroit Local Initiatives Support Corporation. Mr. Davis leads by example, and works tirelessly to build the capacity of other organizations and the faith community serving the North End.

Detroit Young Professionals (DYP) is bringing together movers and shakers from across Southeast Michigan to honor 10 remarkable innovators and changemakers at our 2nd Annual Vanguard Awards. This event was established to recognize and celebrate outstanding Detroiters who have distinguished themselves through professional leadership and service to our community.

Hosted by Local 4 News Anchor Rhonda Walker, the 2nd Annual Vanguard Awards will take place on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at Amnesia, perched high above downtown Detroit on the 16th floor of MotorCity Casino Hotel. Attendees will enjoy a special networking reception, awards presentation and after party with a complimentary hors d'oeuvres and music by DJ SloPoke.
