DANIELLE WRIGHT
Danielle Wright seeks to make a change in her community everyday. As only a junior in high school she helped to found the R.O.C.K. Youth Council in Southfield, Michigan. Under her leadership, and only in its first year, the council hosted a city-wide, youth enrichment lock-in with over 500 teenagers in attendance and over 2,500 cans donated to local charities. After 5 years of her leadership, the legacy lives on and the Lock-In still succeeds.
As a freshman in college, she was appointed Community Service Chair to the University of Michigan’s fashion organization, NOiR. Here she created (NOiR et Rouge) a week long series of events promoting the fight against HIV/AIDS, and in it’s first school year her organization raised over $1500 for the cause. Wright also coordinated a charity dinner at the restaurant "Noodles and Company," developing marketing strategies to appeal to the Ann Arbor Community and raised over $2000 through the success of the event. In her second year, she headed a candlelight vigil, cell phone drive, and t-shirt campaign to help promote awareness about Domestic Violence. Currently, in her undergraduate, junior year, Wright is heading a series of workshops for middle school-aged girls to help increase self-esteem.
Moreover, in hopes to become an investigative journalist, She has worked at major news outlets including WDIV, The CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, and the TODAY Show, helping to produce pieces at each network. As a student journalist however, she still finds a way to give back to her community by raising questions in her stories such as, “Are we, the University of Michigan, pricing students, who may not be as fortunate as others out of an education?” She has also produced pieces dedicated solely to helping others find media internships. Wright’s leadership has distinguished herself professionally and has also inspired progress in the Metro-Detroit community.
